Data

Primary data is data collected by an individual using their own collection methods to find other opinions or answer to questions relating to themselves. These are normally carried out if the secondary data doesn't relate to the questions you need answering. So the individual will carry out a primary data collection method such as physical surveys / questionnaires.

Secondary data is data collected from other individuals and is got from the internet or from the paper. It is basically data that someone else more adept in the field of gathering the knowledge against a said topic. Secondary data can be false or biased so it could be unreliable.

Data Terms

Causation - The relationship between cause and effect, one thing causes another thing.

Correlation - A mutual relationship between two or more things that don't cause each other.

Positive relationship - Data that goes in the same direction, E.g. Data follows a trend.

Inverse relationship - Data that goes in opposite directions between two variables.

Is there a relationship between a film starts height and their success?

What are your initial assumptions? That taller film stars earn more than shorter ones.

What sounds plausible to you, about the relationship between height and film success? The taller the film star the harder they are to film if the cast is generally shorter.

How are you going to define "success"? The money made of each film average.

What different kinds of possible relationships are their and what do they mean? Height and difficulty to film?

What kinds of problems do you think the research question might pose? Some actors may give generalisations of their height and not an exact measurement.

What data needs to be collected?
- Actors height
- Films money made
- Any limiting factors?
